What is the FIO protocol?

Each blockchain has its own complicated system of addresses or accounts which users must manually manage to send and receive assets, or to complete transactions through. From a UX perspective this is a mess for end users because they are expected to both understand the fundamentals of each blockchain and laboriously type in public keys that can exceed 50 characters.

If we want mass acceptance we need to standardize around an easier way.

FIO provides a succinct address which can be associated with blockchain addresses and act as a unique identifier for users. Removing user friction should always be our goal and FIO does that.

Some of the added benefits to FIO integration include great features like inter-wallet notifications, fund requests directly to users, and a data structure which can be used to reference off-chain data.

Reserved names

We have already reserved the :scatter domain within FIO, which means that our users will be able to have unique names like nsjames:scatter or elizabeth:scatter and reference these names from any wallet that has implemented the FIO protocol. BRD, Shapeshift, Bitcoin.com, and many others are also on board, which will help create one, unified standard across the industry.

The current target for FIO Mainnet launch is Q1 2020, and they are running a pre-sale for names which you can access here.
